Cursillos

We offer seasonal cursillos (short courses) in historical research. This includes the History of New Mexico as well as that of New Mexican Spanish, Identity, Genealogy and Family History, Oral History and Video Recordings, Memoir, and Using the Modern Library for Historical Research.

Examples

Faculty has included - Neddy Vigil, the Director of the Language Learning Center at the University of New Mexico, co-author, along with Garland Bills, retired Professor Emeritus from the University of New Mexico, of the research project, Mapa del Corazón which resulted in a KNME-TV production by the same name. Neddy has spent many years conducting research on how native New Mexicans speak Spanish; Rubén Cobos, who came to New Mexico from Mexico at the age of 16 in 1932. Educated at Menaul High School and the University of New Mexico he spent nearly 30 years teaching thousands of prospective teachers. In the process he also collected hundreds of hours of folklore and local history throughout New Mexico and Southern Colorado. His work is captured in the 2nd edition of, A Dictionary of New Mexico and Southern Colorado Spanish.
