The library now holds 12,500 titles which are 95% cataloged to Library of Congress standards. The concentration is on the history and culture of the Hispano world from the U.S. Southwest, Mexico, Central America, Latin America to Spain, Portugal and other points touched by the Spanish empire. There are over 400 periodicals ranging from popular magazines to scholarly journals.
The Reference Area located opposite the Reference Desk contains dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias and concise titles that allow patrons to begin with a broad survey of a given topic. The Vertical File behind the Reference Desk holds over 1300 files of articles on frequently requested subjects. The Reading Room also offers a newspaper rack, a coin-operated photocopier and personal computers for use in accessing the online catalog SALSA, Internet or research database searching. The Library is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Reference requests may be made in person, over the phone or via e-mail.
