It's both
absurdist comedy and political allegory about a tyrannical school
teacher and
her class (the audience) written by
Brazilian playwright Roberto
Athayde. Miss Margarida's Way
has had a long history, and the NHCC and Camino Real Productions are
pleased to
be able to present it in Albuquerque for the first time. Apareceu a
Margarida was first produced in
1973 in playwright Roberto Athayde's
native Brazil which, at the time, was under
a brutal military dictatorship. It was promptly closed by the
authorities, who
seemed to find its depiction of the tyrannical school teacher and her
methods a
little too close to the bone-although, after some changes were made, it
was
allowed to reopen. Over the years Miss

$15, $20, $25 with $5 discount for students, seniors and NHCC

La Casa de Bernarda Alba, by Federico Garcia Lorca, portrays the tragedy of individual oppression in rural Spain with an extraordinary blend of lyrical passion and social detail, both hallmarks of Lorca's drama. The play centers on the events of an Andalusian house during a period of mourning, in which the title character wields total control over her five daughters. The deliberate exclusion of any male character from the action is highly significant as it helps to build up the high level of sexual tension that is present throughout the play. The play explores themes of repression, passion, and conformity, and inspects the effects of men upon women. Directed by René Buch, Artistic Director of New York City's Repertorio Espanol and performed by Repertorio Español's cast of Latin American and American performing artists. A coproduction by NHCC and Teatro Nuevo Mexico. In Spanish with English supertitles.
