The Instituto Cervantes is a worldwide non-profit organization created by the Spanish Government in 1991. It is the largest organization in the world concerned with the teaching of Spanish. Currently, there are 67 centers in over twenty different countries.
The mission of the Instituto Cervantes is to promote the teaching, study and use of Spanish as a second language and to contribute to the advancement of the Spanish, Hispanic and Latin American cultures throughout the world.
Located at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Instituto Cervantes is a separate entity funded by the government of Spain and collaborates with the NHCC in organizing educational activities and cultural events.
