Exhibition: Meso-Americhanics (Maneuvering Mestizaje) de la Torre Brothers and Border Baroque

The intricate, yet monumental, blown glass and mixed media works of Einar and Jamex de la Torre mirror and address the complex experiences of living in a global society. Visually and socially timely, their work excels in peeling off the layers to get to the real issues of the twenty-first century. On view through August 16, 2009.

Art Class: Intermediate Papel Picado with Catalina Delgado Trunk

$35 for 3 classes - NHCC members; $45 for 3 classes - non-members
$10 materials fee

This class continues where the first one left off, but the first class is not a prerequisite.  Learn more intricate designs, hone your cutting skills, and make exciting works of art that celebrate your own life or events!  This class will move on from tissue paper to archival paper.  Students will create a lantern or a piece suitable for framing.  All levels welcome.  Classes are 6/25, 7/2 and 7/9. Exhibit: Nao de China - The Manila Trade 1565 - 1816

This exhibit examines some Mexican traditions and traces them to the trade that took place with the Philippines, especially through the port of Manila. Such Mexican icons as la China poblana, majólica pottery, papel chino, etc. are examined and their roots traced to the Manila trade which employed large galleon ships called Naos to transport merchandise and people.  For a listing of public lectures for this event click here.
