NaturalMente, a group show in the National Hispanic Cultural Center's Community Art Gallery, features artists that incorporate natural forms and organic materials. The diverse range of media includes photographs by Fernando Delgado, Rita Padilla Haufmann's fiber art, mezzotint prints by Carol Sanchez, and Camilla Trujillo's pottery. Their work reflects inspired responses to nature and creativity. NaturalMente compliments Land/Art, a regional collaboration taking place in the summer and fall of 2009. The exhibition opens on July 17, 2009 and runs through May 30, 2010. Join us for the artists' reception, scheduled for the evening August 7, 2009 at 6pm.

This exhibit examines some Mexican traditions and traces them to the trade that took place with the Philippines, especially through the port of Manila. Such Mexican icons as la China poblana, majólica pottery, papel chino, etc. are examined and their roots traced to the Manila trade which employed large galleon ships called Naos to transport merchandise and people. The intricate, yet monumental, blown glass and mixed media works of Einar and Jamex de la Torre mirror and address the complex experiences of living in a global society. Visually and socially timely, their work excels in peeling off the layers to get to the real issues of the twenty-first century. On view through August 16, 2009.

"Volver, Volver, Volver," by award-winning playwright Leonard Madrid, explores one man's regret as he returns home after his life has ended, and shows the ways in which family magic can make anything possible. It is directed by JoRae Taylor. José Garcia Davis directs and performs in "El Diablo y 40 Gallinas (The Devil and 40 Chickens)," a tale about the devil - and a daring chicken heist in Bernalillo, NM - as recalled from the perspective of a teenage boy.
