Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is an iconic figure across the globe. The NHCC Permanent Art Collection includes many portrayals of La Virgen, revealing artists' veneration and imitation of her image. Ranging across media and technique, the Fourth Annual Guadalupe exhibition celebrates the Patroness of the Américas in honor of her Feast Day on December 12. This exhibit is on view through January 7, 2010.

NaturalMente, a group show in the National Hispanic Cultural Center's Community Art Gallery, features artists that incorporate natural forms and organic materials. The diverse range of media includes photographs by Fernando Delgado, Rita Padilla Haufmann's fiber art, mezzotint prints by Carol Sanchez, and Camilla Trujillo's pottery. Their work reflects inspired responses to nature and creativity. NaturalMente compliments Land/Art, a regional collaboration taking place in the summer and fall of 2009. The exhibition opens on July 17, 2009 and runs through May 30, 2010. Join us for the artists' reception, scheduled for the evening August 7, 2009 at 6pm.

Students visit the NHCC Art Museum for a facilitated discussion about one piece of art or art-making technique, followed by a hands-on art making project inspired in some way by the artwork. Watch as your own brilliant students discover their inner creativity. Limited to 35 students. Teachers must send in a registration fee of $1 per spot held. Checks for FREE events will be returned UNCASHED on the day of the event unless teachers cancel with less than 72 hours notice.

Confluencias: Inside Arte Cubano Contemporáneo is a major exhibition on Contemporary Cuban Art, which provides an exciting overview of what's happening now with significant Cuban artists and various media. The exhibition includes approximately 100 works by 40 artists working inside Cuba.

This exhibit focuses on three main staples that have nourished Hispanic and Native American communities for generations: corn, beans and squash. The botanical, nutritional, gastronomic and cultural histories will be presented along with recipes based on using these three food groups in conjunction with chili and other traditional condiments. This exhibit is part of the 2009 "From Field to Feast" project funded by the NM Community Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
