NaturalMente, a group show in the National Hispanic Cultural Center's Community Art Gallery, features artists that incorporate natural forms and organic materials. The diverse range of media includes photographs by Fernando Delgado, Rita Padilla Haufmann's fiber art, mezzotint prints by Carol Sanchez, and Camilla Trujillo's pottery. Their work reflects inspired responses to nature and creativity. NaturalMente compliments Land/Art, a regional collaboration taking place in the summer and fall of 2009. The exhibition opens on July 17, 2009 and runs through May 30, 2010. Join us for the artists' reception, scheduled for the evening August 7, 2009 at 6pm.

This exhibit focuses on three main staples that have nourished Hispanic and Native American communities for generations: corn, beans and squash. The botanical, nutritional, gastronomic and cultural histories will be presented along with recipes based on using these three food groups in conjunction with chili and other traditional condiments. This exhibit is part of the 2009 "From Field to Feast" project funded by the NM Community Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

This Mexican documentary chronicles the experiences of the Jewish refugees who came from Europe to settle in Mexico during the 1920s. Most of the refugees came to escape anti-Semitism and the forced economic hardships they endured in their homelands and had hoped that `America` meant the U.S. But the U.S. had just enacted strict quota laws and many of the immigrants were relegated to Central and South America. The stories of these refugees are told via interviews, archival film clips, photographs and other resources. The film also features several narrators who offer their unique opinions on life in their new countries. Film In Spanish with English Subtitles. Followed by a Q&A with director Daniel Goldberg. Part of the ¡Celebrate! The Jewish Experience in Spanish Speaking Countries project.

Confluencias: Inside Arte Cubano Contemporáneo is a major exhibition on Contemporary Cuban Art, which provides an exciting overview of what's happening now with significant Cuban artists and various media. The exhibition includes approximately 100 works by 40 artists working inside Cuba.

Meet the artists fro the new NHCC exhibition NaturalMente. Carol Sánchez is a native New Mexican printmaker, born and raised in Albuquerque. She works with the mezzotint process and focuses primarily on natural forms and the creation of "organic abstractions." Sánchez produces rich and sensual images which rearticulate everyday organic forms into new experiences. Her work has been shown in both national and international exhibitions.
